Rye Bay Scallop Week
February 21st – Sunday March 1st 2015
This week, it’s all about the scallop.
Scallops dig the gently sloping, sandy seabed of Rye Bay, and in late winter / early spring, they’re at his best.
Across the town you’ll find food tastings, demo’s, interesting menus – even a race.
FEBRUARY 21ST & 28TH
A five course meal of ‘tapas sized’ scallop dishes, each served with a different wine – plus dessert.
From Spain we have scallops with Jerusalem artichokes, Serrano ham & squid ink sauce; from France we have the Coquille St Jacques; from Korea, scallops with crispy pork belly & ramen broth…You get the idea.
A fitting finale to the festival…..… Now in its seventh year, the “What a Load of Scallops” Race is one of the pillars of the Rye Scallop Week.
It has everything – speed, thrills, intense competition, and inevitably rain.
Think Grand Prix – only wetter………… um, and with wheelbarrows of scallops.
