A note on wedding receptions:
If you're looking for a relatively informal affair, with around 40-50 of your closest friends & family, where delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere in nice surroundings is the bit that matters most, well then the Ship will serve you well! Built in the 15th century it has lots of character - big windows, original fireplaces and plenty of beams and Rye itself is about as picturesque and charming a town as you shall find in all of Englandshire.
The pub has different sections which are very flexible and can be used to accommodate your guests in a number of ways. To give you an idea - the main bar and restaurant on the ground floor which is filled with a mix of armchairs, sofas, tables & chairs is great for a drinks reception, or to relax in after dinner and chat late into the night by the fireplace. (also works well as as an area for a live band). Then upstairs is the private dining room which has its own bar and this is probably the best place to hold the wedding breakfast and the speeches.
We recommend that all 10 bedrooms are booked as part of the event to ensure you have the building to yourselves. If other members of your party are staying nearby (there's a hotel with a further 10 bedrooms directly opposite the pub) then you can all congregate for breakfast together at the Ship the next morning.
When it comes to the main wedding meal, the normal menu gives you an idea of the types of food we cook but the chefs are happy to cook bespoke dishes too if you like (and of course tastings can happen in advance).
All of this is at your disposal but in short, we're up for doing whatever you want if we think it'll work so call us with your ideas and thoughts on what you want or come down for a visit and we can go from there...
Note: The Ship is a stone's throw from Rye Town Hall where the official part of the day can take place in the historic council chamber and be followed by your very own Town Crier...
